University of Plymouth research and innovation portfolio

Purpose

To undertake an "as is" organisational assessment of the research, innovation and knowledge exchange portfolio and deliver a "to be" new target operating model to enhance productivity, reduce inefficiencies and enhance academic and external stakeholder experience.

Solution

The six month change management programme involved a document review, senior stakeholder interviews, internal surveys, focus groups and workshop sessions with professional services and academic staff to design and implement a new target operating model for the University's research, innovation and knowledge exchange ecosystem.

Benefit

Delivery of an independent assessment, a redesigned target operating model and revised organisational structure for the University's Research and Innovation Directorate, and total efficiency savings of £610k.
