Northumbria University research and knowledge exchange
Purpose
*To instigate and execute a strategic change programme of Northumbria University's knowledge exchange portfolio and service in order to increase commercial activity, impact and non-regulated income from £16m in 2017/18 to £32m by 2022/23.
Solution
Creation and implementation of corporate strategy for knowledge exchange in partnership with internal and external stakeholders, including redesigned target operating model for knowledge exchange, full restructure of business and enterprise service, redesigned research and business processes, revised policies and introduction of new systems architecture.
Benefit
The change programme yielded an 18% increase in academic engagement in knowledge exchange activity, increased productivity and reduced cost of the business and enterprise service through redesigned operating practices and move to hot desking, and increased year-on-year growth in turnover exceeding targets in CPD, collaborative research, contract research and degree apprenticeships.
